Star Wars Episode VII Cast Announced

With the anticipation of it being very high on when it would happen, it seemed as if the news was coming from a galaxy far, far away. And finally, the Star Wars Episode VII cast has been announced and so far it’s most impressive. Okay, I’ll stop with the references but it’s shaping up pretty well and it’s been confirmed that Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will be reprising their roles as Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker. But they’re not the only original cast members reprising their roles as Anthony Daniels returns as C-3P0, Kenny Baker as R2-D2, and Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca. It does fit into the story because it’s set 35 years after Return of the Jedi and it’s being directed by J.J. Abrams, who has plenty of experience directing epic space movies. Not much has been revealed about the story other than the recent announcement that the Expanded Universe is no longer canon, setting the stage for the story to explore as many possibilities it can without having to adhere to what has already been established. I think this is a great starting point even though I’ve enjoyed stories in the Expanded Universe because the story in Episode VII won’t suffer from the same limitations as the last 3 movies by reaching an already established conclusion.

Without further ado here are the rest of the cast announced and you should recognize some of these actors from other projects: John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver (Lincoln), Oscar Isaac (Sucker Punch, Drive), Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings), Domhnall Gleeson(Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 ), and Max von Sydow (Minority Report, The Exorcist).

I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes out for any news regarding the story or additional cast members but I’m very happy that this is finally happening after all these decades of sequels to the original trilogy being mentioned.

Interesting, though I’m curious whether they’ll use something from expanded universe or they discard it completely. It’s still something to look forward to possibly if done right it will be great come back of classic, but we’ll see.

It’s possible they might use an element or so but I think the main reason for that announcement was so they could work with a clean slate and not have to think of people saying it doesn’t coincidence with the expanded universe
