The Strain: Mister Quinlan #4

  • The good

    Bloody battles.

  • The bad

This is our only strigoi fix until season 4

  • The ugly

    Expecting a happy ending.

  • It’s one thing to head into battle outmanned and outgunned. But battling a horde of vampires in the desert is a whole other monster. But, that is where Quinlan and Decimus find themselves in The Strain: Mister Quinlan #4. In a last stand, they prepare to defend themselves and wipe out the strigoi threatening Rome.

Quinlan finds himself in a leadership role as the battle draws near, he defers to Decimus when it becomes time to inspire and give the men purpose. He excels at strategy and war, but Quinlan is still learning the nuances of becoming a true leader. Killing is what he does best, and he educates on how to best defeat the strigoi. The relationship between the two has been enjoyable to watch unfold.

The action in this issue is out of control. The battles are brutal and unrelenting. It feels like wartime in Rome, between the strategy and tactics utilized by Quinlan and Decimus. Though he strives to do the right thing, Quinlan is a man of war. And he’s quickly becoming a pro at what he does. One of the greater missed opportunities in The Strain television show is in the action. They’ve had some fantastic set pieces but don’t utilize them as often as they could. You get a real feel just how dangerous these vampires can be when they are on the attack.

    The Strain: Mister Quinlan #4

    SUMMARY

The Strain: Mister Quinlan #4 is a brutal, (in a good way) issue all around, which makes for a great read. There are tons of potential for Quinlan, as his character has an interesting Blade/Highlander dynamic. I wasn’t too sure how the Rome story would play out, but is enjoyable so far. Another can’t miss issue, grab your silver and get to hunting!
