The Order of the Forge #3
-
The good
Great action. Interactions between George and Kate. The sardonic humor and clever wit is back
-
The bad
Doesn't delve into the origin of their powers or explore the world Lord Hammond wanted to rule
-
The ugly
- Total score
The Order of the Forge #3 is the conclusion to the series and has George Washington and company coming face to face with Lord Hammond to stop his plot to overthrow the king. Since acquiring the map they’ve been able to narrow down the location of the secret weapon but haven’t been able to pinpoint its exact location. However, Lord Hammond has been able to pinpoint theirs as he surprises George and Kate while they’re trying to decipher the clues. But instead of killing them, Lord Hammond decides to use them to uncover any potential traps left behind by the original creators. In his arrogance, Lord Hammond also believes he has Ben Franklin and Paul Revere secretly trapped outside but with his abilities, Ben is preparing his own weapon that the world has never seen. But Kate is able to unlock the final mechanism before it comes to that, and those inside are flooded with water and end up in a deep cavern with nowhere to escape. This leads to chaos breaking out outside as Lord Hammond’s men attack Ben and Paul. Can George and Kate get to the secret weapon before Lord Hammond or has their luck finally run out?
SUMMARY
The Order of the Forge #3 is an entertaining conclusion to the series but makes me feel as if so much potential was left on the table just to wrap up the story arc. There’s plenty of intense action, the best in the series, and it’s good to see every character use their abilities in different ways. The character development is relatively limited outside of George and Kate’s wonderful interactions. However, there are still unanswered questions about what set all these events in motion that I hope there’s another series that will delve into this fascinating world and characters.
