After watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer I was filled with intense excitement, and since I had the felt like I couldn’t wait, opening day seemed like it was far, far away. When I watched the actors’ reactions to seeing themselves in the trailer I completely understood their reactions because it would be the coolest thing ever to see yourself in a Star Wars movie. So even though you nor I will ever see ourselves in the Force Awakens, Put Me In The Story understands that sentiment and allows you to put yourself in its exclusive story, Star Wars: The Force Inside.
Learn the way of the Jedi and use the Force to help the Rebel Alliance in its quest to overthrow the Empire. Or strive to become a Jedi Knight and understand every element of the Force as it flows through you. If you advance enough then one day you can become a Jedi Master who will one day train future generations of Jedi so they can understand the Force and use it the correct way.
Or perhaps you disagree with the rebels and you want to choose the Path of the Sith. It’s not an easy one because Emperor Palpatine demands results. It doesn’t matter if you choose to just be a member of the Galactic Empire or rise to become a Sith Lord you’ll still do your master’s bidding. Unless you choose to become a Sith Master and then only the Emperor can rival your power.
Which path will you choose?
Once you get past the excitement from the photo and dedication you’ll be greeted by C3PO and R2-D2, if you start off choosing the light side of the Force. They’ll tell you how the book is divided into 2 parts, the Jedi side and the Sith side. The objective is to answer the questions presented to you by different characters and take the total from all your answers and use that to determine your skill in using the Force. So you’ll need a pencil to write in the book (or write down the score somewhere) to tally up your score on each page. Once you finish one side you can choose to turn the book around and do the same for the other side.
I started with the Jedi path and the first one encountered was Yoda. He was the first of 6, and every encounter follows the same pattern. There’s a brief biography of each, and the following page has a series of questions related to that Jedi’s personality and/or experiences. The questions vary so they never feel monotonous and the answers truly reflect different personality types defining what type of Jedi you will be. Some of the answers are highly entertaining (“Enough of your foolish questions”) so it’s pretty fun to do this solo or as a family. They’re not trivia questions so there are no right or wrong answers that will prevent you from going forward but reflect the type of decisions you would make in those decisions. However, some answers were more obvious than others in terms of displaying a greater mastery of the Force. Once we added up the score we were able to see which level we reached as a Jedi, which was really good for the first time.
The Sith side followed the same pattern except you’re greeted by Darth Vader and there are 7 characters instead of 6. So there aren’t one or two stories to just read because it’s mainly a series of multiple choice questions but it can be engrossing at times and fun to answer. It’s fun to read the biographies as well because these are the best Star Wars characters so you even deal with a separate page for Darth Sidious, if you’re not afraid to get there. Plus the artwork is pretty cool so that’s incentive enough to keep turning the pages.
SUMMARY
Star Wars: The Force Inside is a fun book that truly personalizes the Star Wars experience in simple yet effective ways. Everything from the characters making appearances to the variety of questions creates the type of atmosphere that can easily make this experience a blast for everyone involved. The artwork is great so there’s a lot to enjoy visually. And despite the answer scoring format being uniform throughout, which lessens the suspense of the choices, there are still plenty of ways to keep it fresh and learn from the journey each time. I highly recommend Star Wars: The Force Inside for great family fun.
