Mulan Revelations #3 continues with Mulan and Adam attempting to escape her pursuers while learning the truth about her connection to the Immortals. It opens up with Mulan walking through the sanctuary discovering the truth to the stories her godfather, who raised her after her parents were killed, used to tell her growing up. She was told a story of how her namesake led an army of Immortals in battle against demonic children centuries ago. In the midst of this discovery Adam receives a phone call from his employer and he leaves temporarily to take the call in private. Mulan is approached by 2 of the statues and they convey to her the history of how the Immortals entered the world and the eventual creation of the Hybrids, and the destruction they caused. She understands her role, her enemy, and what she has to do. However, she doesn’t know that Adam already knew who she was and his employer is another group trying to track her whereabouts and apprehend her for its own goals. Will Adam betray Mulan or will he be a valuable asset once he learns the truth about her task?
I enjoyed all of the exciting action this issue which included more action not just involving Mulan. However, I would like a little more clarification regarding her powers and the extent of them. It would be nice to show it in a way that would tie into providing more of an understanding of her unique task in dealing with the Hybrids and their ultimate goal.
SUMMARY
Mulan Revelations #3 is an intense issue that keeps the momentum from the first 2 issues going while providing great answers about everything occurring. I love the way the history of the Immortals and Hybrids is conveyed to Mulan, although the way others know about her isn’t completely revealed here. So even though I’m glad Adam’s involvement is clarified and he’s more useful. I’m not completely sure he’s necessary in his role yet other than to be a western influence. However, the exchange between Longwei and Hong paints a clear and delightful image of the gravity of the situation while providing more depth to the story. This series has been thrilling from the start and I’m just enjoying every aspect of it.
