Mirror’s Edge: Exordium #1 is the start of a new series written by Christofer Emgard based on the video game franchise and published by Dark Horse Comics. It’s about Faith’s quest to learn more about her mother’s life while proving herself as a Runner in the corrupt world in which it’s set. This issue opens up with Faith watching a family enjoying dinner in their home, and she contemplates how things would’ve been for her if she did have a normal family. However, she focuses on performing her current mission, which is to distract some Krugersec guards so her team could infiltrate the building. So she does what she’s best at, and that’s being a runner and leading them on a chase on various rooftops of the sprawling metropolis. She’s not worried because she knows they can’t catch her but she stumbles onto a deal being made between 2 criminal organizations that instantly blame her for leading Krugersec guards to their location and ruining the deal. A gunfight breaks out and Faith is unable to escape as she’s captured by one of the groups. What Faith doesn’t know is that this is only the beginning of her life changing and her discovering the truth about her family’s history.
SUMMARY
Mirror’s Edge: Exordium #1 is an interesting start to the series complete with entertaining action and an intriguing story line. As soon as the issue starts things are off to a blistering pace setting the tone quickly, and following up with enjoyable character introductions. Those who are unfamiliar with the game will only have a slight problem understanding a couple of things but not following the overall story. And even though a brief moment could’ve been taken to elaborate on certain terms the context definitely helps in figuring it out. So after the first visit back to this world I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Faith next.
