King Conan The Conqueror #6 is the final issue in the series and has Conan and his army facing off against Xaltotun and his forces one final time as King Conan recounts this saga to his scribe. The memories of war still haunt him as he tells his scribe in the rawest way possible that it’s insatiable but no war was as difficult as the one he fought against Xaltotun. He recalls the march through the kingdom under a unified banner with the soldiers rejuvenated due to the fact that their king was still alive. Now that wasn’t the only reason because they might have been dismayed by the treacherous clouds filled with thunder and lightning summoned by Xaltotun if not for the power of the Heart of Ahriman. They were able to cross the river and this struck fear into Xaltotun’s forces because he promised them floods and storms that would decimate Conan’s army before reaching them. Unknown to them was the fact that Conan’s army possessed the Heart, and as a result they could counter all of Xaltotun’s magic. It appears the only thing Xaltotun has to his advantage is holding Zenobia captive but no one has any idea that she means so much to Conan. So when a traitor approaches them stating he has a way to ambush Conan’s forces they jump at the opportunity. Will the Heart of Ahriman be enough to overcome this plot or will it be enough to give Xaltotun even a slight victory?
SUMMARY
King Conan The Conqueror #6 is a perfect ending to an incredible series about one’s life story, persevering and acquiring what’s needed to triumph and attain what’s truly meaningful in life. It can be viewed as inspirational but it’s definitely entertaining whether or not that was originally intended when this series was conceived. King Conan set out to tell his scribe a story that would encompass his entire life for others to know him, and my hat’s off to Timothy Truman for an excellent adaptation that succeeded in completely doing that. And of course this includes the artwork of Tomas Giorello, which helped make this one of the most engrossing series I’ve read. I highly recommend this series.
