The Goon: Occasion of Revenge #4 is the conclusion to the mini-series and has Goon dealing with the fallout of Kid’s actions. It opens up with Goon receiving a call from one of Rigatti’s men that the one Goon was supposed to be protecting never checked in according to the usual schedule. And he warns Goon that if anything happened to Rory, the least of Goon’s concerns would be the witches. Goon is perplexed by this knowing he had Kid Gargantuan guarding him in a secret location. And he realizes that Ramona is also nowhere to be found. Concerned, Goon goes to the secret location and sees Kid sitting near Rory’s dead body weeping but not for Rory. He says to Goon that his mother did the best that she could and that Rory was his brother. Goon doesn’t understand what he’s saying until Kid states that Rory is the son of Senator Slocomb, Kid’s father, and that Ramona told him this. And he states that he killed Rory and he’s glad he did it. Goon kills Kid and is enraged not just because of Rory but the revelation of Ramona’s involvement too. This town has always fed off the pain and suffering of others but now Goon is ready to deal out his own. Or is he too late to contend with the witches’ plan?
SUMMARY
The Goon: Occasion of Revenge #4 is an excellent issue that builds on the shocking conclusion of the previous one and results in an interesting turn of events. The multiple panels without words are highly impactful due to the beautiful artwork capturing all the relevant emotions in the different situations. This series has shown the way the suffering of others was due to the strange nature of the town, which fed off of it, and this issue ties Goon’s current situation to the mystical powers fueling the town in a riveting way. Considering this issue is the conclusion to the series there is the feeling that some important things aren’t answered. However, it’s also clear that this isn’t the end to the story so I’m very enthusiastic about getting my hands on the next series involving Goon…whenever that is.
