Bloodshot Reborn #7

  • The good

Sets up confrontation between Bloodshot and the Hunter. Character development. Potential of Rising Spirit lead

  • The bad

Imaginary Kay is back instead of building up the hunter or explaining how the nanites chose people. Hoyt and Festival make little progress.

  • The ugly

  • Bloodshot Reborn #7 has Ray attempting to find the killer hunting others who possess the nanites to put a stop to the madness once and for all. It hasn’t been easy for him even though he can feel the nanites calling him because he didn’t expect someone else to be hunting them too. This issue opens up in a phone call system with one of the employees there having a tough time because of his health. He attempts to carry on but has to take a break to go to the bathroom to try to get himself together. Suddenly he has a vision of shooting up the workplace and killing everyone there. His skin and eyes start to change color because of the nanites but he’s able to resist their control long enough to leave work without causing any harm. His fortune doesn’t improve since the one hunting the nanites finds him in the alley and kills him taking the nanites. This causes Ray to wake up since he realizes that what he saw wasn’t a dream but real. He knows that the killer is only getting stronger, and since there’s only one other infected person Ray has to retrieve those nanites before the killer does. However, Magic doesn’t want him traveling alone, and reluctantly Ray agrees despite the danger this puts her in. Can he find the last infected before the killer or will he remain one step behind in this hunt?

    Bloodshot Reborn #7
The start of this issue with the struggle of the random employee Dwight was the start I was hoping for because it jumped right into the story line although there was still no explanation as to why the nanites chose certain people. And when the hunter killed Dwight and took his nanites I thought it was finally time for this mysterious person to be revealed or at least be shown to be a formidable threat to Bloodshot. I appreciated the character development last issue and the return of agents Festival and Hoyt. I enjoyed it so much that I wish it occurred earlier in the series or at least this story line. So I was somewhat disahppointed to see the imaginary Kay back (but thankful there was no Bloodsquirt) when the struggle with the nanites could have been portrayed differently at this point. There was still good character development for him but  it all occurred when the imaginary Kay wasn’t present.

The way the struggle was shown for Dwight was better, and I enjoyed the it being portrayed in real terms for him. The time spent showing the imaginary Kay could’ve been used to examine this relationship and the understanding of Dwight’s resistance. Bloodshot’s relationship with Kay was nowhere near as vital to him to be the only image psychologically haunting him. The story would advance somewhat but instead of feeling like an intense hunt or be hunted scenario it felt like the majority of it was delayed the entire issue but as a result I’m expecting an entertaining confrontation next issue.

    Bloodshot Reborn #7
Initially Hoyt and Festival’s story line felt like it was too far behind in terms of them chasing Bloodshot’s history through Rising Spirit when that was already covered but it started to become interesting. I don’t know where this lead will take them and I won’t give any spoilers about the information Hoyt’s connection gave to them but it seems possible their investigation will extend beyond the current hunt. And maybe they’ll add to the Bloodshot mythos from interesting angles so I still like their potential. So I am still intrigued to see where their investigation leads them next. It sounds exciting and disturbing.

    SUMMARY

Bloodshot Reborn #7 sets up the confrontation between Bloodshot and the hunter but doesn’t adequately build the latter up so it has less of an impact than it should. It does build on Ray’s character development making him feel more rounded, and despite the imaginary Kay reappearing that momentum isn’t lost. Hoyt and Festival finally have a lead that could break new ground and I hope the full potential is explored. For now I’m just enjoying the interesting turn of events.
