Aliens: Defiance #6
-
The good
The art of Tristan Jones, excellent story.
-
The bad
These issues are too short.
-
The ugly
Being surrounded by facehuggers.
- Total score
Taking on a mission to rid the universe of xenomorphs was not ever an easy proposition. Between the creatures themselves and Weyland-Yutani’s desire to find themselves a sample for the bio-weapons division it wasn’t getting any easier. Now, Zula, Davis, and rescued medical officer Dr. Hollis are about to discover how tough it truly becomes in Aliens: Defiance #6.
I absolutely love how each issue of Defiance kicks off. It has the feel of a movie, the way the action, story, and issue begins. It’s not only stylish, but immerses you fully. There is no time wasted to get this issue going as we pick up right where we left off as the Colonial Marines make their attempt to capture an alien. Nothing but unadulterated, grimy, bloody mayhem ensues. If an action sequence could be described as pornography, this would be it.
There are lots of other items I would like to discuss, but I do not want to give anything away. Zula and Davis have a wonderful scene near the end of the issue, and Brian Wood is able to bring out the humanity in both humans and synthetics. The tandem he makes with the art of Tristan Jones is perfect. It’s a popular tune, singing the song of the art quality but it is worth repeating on loop. Tristan etches everything with such loving detail it’s impossible to not get drawn in.
SUMMARY
I honestly don’t what else to say at this point, I’m running out of positive adjectives. Defiance is the penultimate Aliens series right now, and has the potential to be the new benchmark. Go get it.
