Aliens: Defiance #3
-
The good
A different type of Aliens tale..
-
The bad
Which some may not take to. No Tristan Jones art.
-
The ugly
Trusting a synthetic.
- Total score
After a successful mission, Zula Hendricks believes her biggest threat is the xenomorph infestation in Aliens: Defiance #3. Her little band of rogue synthetics had broken off from Weyland-Yutani ready to save the world. You didn’t think it was going to be that easy did you? The Company already had a plan, and their reach is far.
Hendricks is rehabbing after the latest events with help from Davis. He is the leader of the synthetics, and her medical go-to-guy. While this is going on, the others have decided to forego the new mission. Mutiny! They switch back their communications with The Company and begin their new mission to take the ship back. This was a nice twist, as I had assumed Hendricks and her band of rebels would be marching through the solar system eradicating xenomorphs for a bit longer.
One of the standouts from the first two issues of Defiance has been the art of Tristan Jones. His love for the series’ acid drips off every page and brings life to the story. Riccardo Burchielli is a more than capable substitute teacher, and the issue suffers no drop in quality with the art change. Brian Wood’s writing continues to be excellent, not relegating himself to cheesy one-liners and generic dialogue.
SUMMARY
Aliens: Defiance #3 continues to build momentum as we reach the ¼ mark in the story. The Aliens universe is definitely shining with some love and care behind it. There is more to this franchise than cool creatures and big battles. It’s also about survival, hope, and defying the odds.

Once again a stellar review from the hulking reviewer….this seems like an interesting addition to the Aliens anthology
