King Tiger #3 has him making a last-ditch effort to be free of his father and siblings in order to sabotage their plan to bring Canthastius into the world. This issue opens up on a helicopter in the desert with King Tiger being held captive. They’re taking him to the city where Canthastius is raging but still as a fire demon and unable to manifest itself fully. But King Tiger isn’t completely helpless as he takes advantage of Canthastius attacking indiscriminately and uses it as a distraction to throw himself from the helicopter but not before taking his siblings with him. The fall stuns them momentarily and King Tiger finally frees himself from their binds. Meanwhile, Rikki cuts herself free and finds Lookfar, who was helping Milo. She’s upset that King Tiger didn’t tell her the truth about his parents but she’s still determined to help him. But what can she do when Canthastius is rampaging through the city and she doesn’t know how to defeat it? And can King Tiger escape his destiny and destroy the monster before it reaches its full power?
Even a little bit of planning on King Tiger’s part to deal with this all-encompassing threat would have put the actions of the supporting cast in a better light because then it would seem as if they knew what they were doing or attempting to do. So Rikki heading to the scene of destruction with a truck loaded with explosives and no plan lessened the impact of Canthastius. And considering everything falling to pieces where even King Tiger’s father didn’t know what was occurring made me wonder if anyone knew what was occurring. And that’s when I realized that there wasn’t a world or a mythology being developed to be immersed in when I wanted that badly. So I felt detached from the events taking place.
SUMMARY
King Tiger #3 is an okay issue that unfortunately feels like random events happening to random people due to the lack of an immersive mythology or planning on the part of the characters to give everything taking place a better context. And as a result the supporting cast of characters come off as superfluous instead of enhancing the story. However, it’s good to see King Tiger’s skills on display and the action involving him is pretty good. I don’t know how this story arc will end but I hope the conclusion is more engrossing overall.
