X Rebirth

X Rebirth is a single-player space combat simulation game developed by Egosoft and is the sixth installment in the X series. It will be a new beginning to the series as it features a young adventurer and his female ally starting off in a historic but battered spaceship and going against the entire universe. And with the X universe in a state of turmoil and going through a momentous change, this duo will play a huge part in the events to come. And even though the two are starting in a battered spaceship, you as the player can help their rise through accepting and completing missions, building stations and factories, trade, and of course, space combat. You get to decide who you want to recruit to be a member of your crew and you get to interact face to face with both humans and aliens on stations. The fate of the X Universe is in your hands so choose your course of action wisely.

Although I have never played a game in the X series before, I have been looking lately for more space simulation games and came across this gem. Egosoft is promising that “X Rebirth features a whole new user experience – it is easier than ever to start with, and remains as deep as fans expect it,” and since I’m a newcomer it’s music to my ears, or would be if someone was actually telling me this. I would want to be able to get into the series in the best way, however as I become accustomed to the game play I wouldn’t want the deep, satisfying game play to be sacrificed just to draw in newcomers because I’m very interested in the deep game play. It’s a sandbox experience, meaning it’s open world, or rather open space, and you can explore anything you want and have the freedom to select and accomplish your objectives in almost any order you want, according to the progression of the storyline. And with a character-driven UI, you can expect the interactions to have a personal touch as well.

The features laid out are very appealing to me and I’m pretty excited to try this game. There will be a fully functioning economy, so you’ll be able to trade with the various cities, and your actions can directly affect trading, such as attacking a freighter and as a result affecting prices throughout the system. And if you don’t want to just behave as a pirate, you can build your own trading empire and factories. Of course you’ll have other facilities to build in order to maintain your empire and you’ll need a strong fleet in order to protect it. You can join the military or the police too, but regardless of your choice, you can expect to be a part of epic battles where strategy will be key. I’m truly hoping the experience will be as great as it seems when X Rebirth is released on November 15th.
