The Witcher #1 Preview

,

It’s here!! Excuse me, I mean I finally got my hands on the Witcher #1 preview and I’ve been looking forward to this since it was announced at NYCC. I’m a huge fan of the video game series, and I finished the second one multiple times to explore all the possible endings, and now I’m just starting the original books the video games are based on. So despite my partial disclaimer regarding my enthusiasm for this series, the story in this 5-part miniseries stands alone as it tells the tale of Geralt meeting a widowed man on the edge of the Black Forest during his journey. However the man’s wife haunts a mansion called the House of Glass and it’s up to Geralt, the monster hunter, to put an end to that place of horrors.

Even though there are very mature RPGs available now I always think of the Witcher series as adult RPGs because of its tone and handling of its subject matter, which I appreciate. It appears that there won’t be a drastic break from that as the writing of Paul Tobin along with the artwork of Joe Querio seems to be aiming for some of the darker tones in the Witcher lore. The first issue is set to be released March 19th.

Breaking news! (or not so breaking I just somehow missed it before :):):) Sapkowski published new book about witcher Geralt: Season of Storms, which is not continuation of the saga but rather prequel which takes place in timeline somewhere between short storiers of The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny (apparently right before story: The Witcher from The Last Wish, by the way short stories have their own in-universe chronology 🙂 but you don’t have to read them in this specific order :).

Wow then I definitely have to check that out. And I just found out that the Witcher 1 and 2 are on Steam for free. I don’t know how long that will last but if you no longer have them or know someone who wants them they should go for it now

Thanks for tip ;). Well I was recently looking on news on witcher 3 it seems one of the locations in game will be Free City of Novigrad 🙂 if to believe the source (besides the Skellige Isles shown in trailer, curious thing the islanders appear in books already in short story Matter of Price from the Last Wish as guests on royal court of Cintra ,when you’ll read the story you’ll understand :):) also Novigrad appears in book :). So this will be hell of an experience to explore the locations about which I read before (Novigrad features in story the Eternal Fire and Skellige Isles are more elaborated upon in Tower of the Swallow :).

By the way I think the first chapter of Season of Storms is already fan-translated to english on ,,our community translations” on thewitcher.pl (I think there might be more somewhere) well it is quite surprising that Sapkowski wrote this, he hasn’t published anything witcher related for years :).

Yeah the open world in Witcher 3 will be massive. And of course I’ll want to explore every area too. So for you it’ll be about seeing these locations visualized for the first time and for me it’ll be learning the places for the first time through the game and the books

Yeah it’s just a sample so maybe I’m worrying a bit too much 🙂 anyway it’s an interesting thing that Sapkowski used a bit of language jokes and word plays in polish which might be difficult to render in translations, so it’s curious whether they’ll follow his lead trying to imitate his style.

Hmm story looks promising but I think they should work a bit more on dialogues :). Hehehe, one of great part of witcher no matter books or games were witty dialogues :), Geralt liked to use sarcasm though he wasn’t very talkative. What do you think?

I think that will be on display at some point considering the length of the preview. I think it was a really good start
