Terminator: Enemy of My Enemy #4

  • The good

Incredible action sequence and my favorite in the series. Greene and the terminator learning each others capabilities

  • The bad

Still minimal story progression and Dr. Fong's importance is still a mystery

  • The ugly

  • Terminator: Enemy of My Enemy #4 picks up with Farrow Greene and the terminator agreeing to join forces to infiltrate the base where Dr. Elise Fong is being held, and put away their differences for the time being. Since he’s unlike anything he’s ever encountered before, Greene asks him what he is and he refuses to answer stating it would leave him at a disadvantage. However she explains to him that they’re walking into a very precarious situation and it would be advantageous for both of them if she knew his capabilities so they could better approach the situation. So he explains to her the type of munitions that he can handle and those that can cause him harm, and in turn he wants to know her weaknesses. So she tells him she used to be part of the strike team for Operation Canary, and considering he already has detailed files in his memory banks, the answer is suffice for him. They then discuss what would happen once they retrieved Dr. Fong and the likelihood of defeating the other but they have to realize that they may not even get that far if their plan to cooperate falls apart. Ah, is the enemy of my enemy truly my friend or will their distrust of each other doom them to failure?

This series has been a mixed bag for me because on one hand there’s a very interesting protagonist in Farrow Greene, and the premise of her working with a terminator has been intriguing but on the other hand things have moved extremely slow, and there’s still no clarification on why Dr. Fong is so important. So I enjoyed the start of this issue with Greene and the terminator conversing with more of the former’s backstory being revealed, and the exchange regarding vulnerabilities was entertaining as it was the epitome of the title of the series. And it should be apparent by now in this series, love it or hate it, that there will be an extended action sequence covering the majority of the issue, and it is an intense sequence. As I’ve mentioned before, Jamal Igle does an incredible job in action sequences transitioning from one move to another so if you enjoy action, which I do, then you’ll be completely caught up in this sequence. The pages come alive and during that time you’ll forget you’re reading a comic and not watching an action movie as you’ll be on the edge of your seat riveted by the coordinated action and the tense moments of wondering if they will truly back each other up. It’s so engrossing that you’ll also forget the accompanying story, and despite a potential story gem being revealed once the base is infiltrated, I wonder if that will even be explored or just used as a simple reason for more action. But if you’ve been feeling this series then you should love this issue.

    SUMMARY

Terminator: Enemy of My Enemy #4 is a thrilling, action-packed issue that unapologetically knows what the series has done best so far and continues to do it. The action sequence in this issue is my favorite one in the series so far, and the fact it was preceded by more of Greene’s backstory and the two of them discussing their capabilities made it that more electrifying. However there is still very little story development so Dr. Fong’s importance is still a mystery for the most part, and it seems as if the story has almost passed her by based on the conclusion of this issue but that remains to be seen. So for now all you can do is wait and you will enjoy the ride this issue.
