Terminator: Enemy of My Enemy #2

  • The good

Greene becomes even more of an intriguing character. Dr. Fong's importance is revealed. Great action sequences

  • The bad

issue feels like it ends abruptly. A few action panels could be replaced if it moves the story forward

  • The ugly

  • Terminator: Enemy of My Enemy #2 continues the story of ex-CIA operative Farrow Greene as she pursues Dr. Elise Fong following her run in with a T-800 sent from the future. And her phone call at the end of the first issue raised the alarm with her contact who in turn makes his own phone call notifying the agency about her encounter. And apparently they have a protocol in place for dealing with terminators and even though their objective isn’t clear one is very impressed with the fact that Farrow Greene survived. Meanwhile Elise Fong is trying to pawn her possessions so she could have money to get away but also buy protection after what she witnessed. But Greene is still on to her and scoops her up before she can get away and instead of turning her in immediately to her client she has some questions she wants answered. Green knows her client wants Fong alive but that someone obviously wants her dead, and Greene wants to know why Fong is so important that the one hunting her would be unlike anything Greene has ever experienced in her life. And neither one of them are aware that the T-800 is also capable of tracking them and he’s closing in on their location and won’t stop until his mission is complete. And considering she’s an ex-CIA operative will their involvement might only make matters worse for her. Greene was able to go toe to toe with the T-800 once and survived but will she be able to survive a second encounter? And what is it about Dr. Fong that makes her important to so many people?

The first issue was enjoyable in an action-packed way but lacked an engrossing story and outside of Farrow Greene there weren’t any characters who resonated with me. This was mostly due to the lack of even a hint as to why Dr. Fong was so important and as a result there wasn’t much to latch on to throughout but the mystery deepened at the end of the issue. This issue not only deepens the mystery regarding the interest and knowledge of the CIA regarding terminators but also addresses to a large extent what makes Dr. Fong so important and does so immediately. And what Dr. Fong explains to Greene makes sense in terms of knowing what could be important to defeating terminators or rather why her research would be such a threat to them and it involves artificial skin. But it’s intriguing because it’s clearly important to those fighting against terminators (and Skynet) and so it raises the question of who is Greene’s client who wants Dr. Fong delivered safely considering Greene is very capable of defending her from even a T-800. So when this is followed by pages of action it’s more enjoyable this time and the confrontation is even more electrifying than the first issue. And it’s not just a rehashing of their first fight because others would get involved and this opens up the series tremendously and hopefully this will lead to more exploration of Greene’s backstory because she has become an impressive character to me. Or at the very least a little more about Dr. Fong and why she originally was on the run and who the mysterious client is. It’s not that I would enjoy it if there was no action next issue but I’m very intrigued by the storyline now and would want the next issue to take advantage of that and move the story forward.

    SUMMARY

Terminator: Enemy of My Enemy #2 is a solid entry in the series revealing why Dr. Fong would be important to so many people and as a result a target of Skynet as well as a mysterious client wanting her delivered safely. The fact that this is done almost immediately makes the action this time around more enjoyable, and with the agency getting involved it makes for even better moments. The story developments are intriguing and there appear to be a lot of machinations going on behind the scenes, and for some time, so if the next issue capitalizes on that and Greene being an interesting character, this series would definitely move up in my book.
