Star Wars Darth Maul: Son Of Dathomir #2 continues the story of Darth Maul after his defeat at the hands of General Grievous and his forces, and it opens up with Darth Maul calling on Mother Talzin for help. She tells him that they have to assume Darth Sidious allowed him to escape and also that Sidious would believe that he would lead them right to her. So she devises a plan for Darth Maul to head to his Black Sun stronghold on the planet Ord Mantell and they would set a trap for Grievous’s forces there. Following her guidance, Darth Maul rallies his forces in the hope that the bait is taken, and sure enough Count Dooku and Grievous track a large number of Mandalorian ships arriving on Ord Mantell and plan to strike since they also believe Talzin is arriving. Darth Maul lays out the plan for his forces and how it’s key that Dooku and Grievous have to believe they won in order for them to be drawn into the trap completely. And the purpose of the plan is no different from Sidious’s goal, which is the belief that cutting off the head will effectively destroy the remaining forces. But can Darth Maul and the Black Sun overcome the overwhelming droid forces or is even this all part of Sidious’s plan as well?
SUMMARY
Star Wars Darth Maul: Son Of Dathomir #2 is an entertaining issue that moves the story forward while creating the potential for some interesting plot twists. It’s not the most complex story and readers who have no knowledge of the Clone Wars might feel slightly detached due to the lack of character development these two issues but won’t have a problem following the series of events taking place. And the conclusion of this issue means all bets are off the table for next issue…well, within the confines of established events but at least the suspense makes it seem that way.
