  • The ugly

  • Resurrectionists #6 continues with the Resurrectionists turning the tables on Lennox/Pharaoh Herihor as the truth of the cycle is revealed. It opens up with Jericho, Lena and Mac thinking their plan to steal artifacts worked without a hitch until some of Lennox’s henchmen show up and a gun battle ensues. Lennox’s henchmen are aware of what’s going on and tell the Resurrectionists that this battle is an act they live over and over because they are part of this cycle too.  However Lena, the Scout, takes the lead and tells Jericho and Mac to escape with the artifact while she holds them off. EVen though Mac hasn’t been unlocked he still plays an important role in the current events. So he doesn’t recall how Jericho, the Maker, once got close to a woman named Sabu in ancient Egypt because of her connection to Pharaoh. He would inform her that he would need her to secure an audience for him with Pharaoh so they could present Pharaoh with a plan. So she would go along with it, fully aware and involved in their plan to seek revenge against Pharaoh. But who is she in the present, and how did the Resurrectionists get locked in such a vicious cycle?

I’ve been loving the premise of this series even though I’ve been waiting for some kind of answers about how this cycle started with the Resurrectionists. And without those answers it’s been difficult to be more engrossed in the current events because the purpose wasn’t clear. This issue rectified that with plenty of exciting answers, and I felt as engrossed as I did during the first issue. The successful blend of past and present events shed light on all the characters shown to date, and made the current events more pertinent than ever. At first I wasn’t sure what to make of Sabu being introduced to the story considering the number of characters already with a role but the way events developed in ancient Egypt was intriguing as a result. And there would be a confrontation with Pharaoh Herihor, and so not to spoil any of it, I’ll just say it was worth the wait. And Maurizio Rosenzweig’s artwork gives life to the delightful sequence showing what became of the Resurrectionists and transformed them to be who they are in this cycle. I was really impressed by this.
But all the action doesn’t just take place in ancient Egypt as the story progresses a lot in the present. There was one touching moment that was surprising but considering the theme of the series makes sense. And I felt more invested in the new Resurrectionists’ plan devised this issue in light of these events. And the last page…wow. I can’t wait for next issue.
