Resurrectionists #3

  • The good

Fully unlocked Jericho makes entire premise more exciting. Great action and character development

  • The bad

Answers from ancient Egypt somewhat lacking. Not sure about twist with Quinn yet

  • The ugly

  • Resurrectionists #3 continues with Jericho Way trying to free himself from the water trap the Scout threw him in before she went off to take out some mercenaries. She only gave him a writing pen to use and he has no idea how he’s supposed to escape from the handcuffs before drowning. And then suddenly he remembers a past life where he was an escape artist for show, and that’s all he needs to remember what to do in order to get free. However he doesn’t rush to help the Scout because he remembers everything, including the fact that he is and always will be the Maker in every incarnation. He leaves a message for her on the wall before making his way out of the building. The Scout dispatches the remaining mercenaries and see’s the Maker’s message, and is satisfied knowing he’s been completely unlocked. Meanwhile, Quinn is having her own visions about former lives as she waits for Jericho to arrive. But she hasn’t been completely unlocked yet so she’s not sure what to make of it. Can Jericho unlock Quinn so she can aid him and the Scout as part of the Resurrectionists or is the situation even more complicated than it seems?

I’ve been waiting for each issue in this series with bated breath, and I’ve been looking forward to seeing how the story would flow once Jericho Way was completely unlocked. And this issue gets right to that using its usual former lives mechanic beautifully to show how Jericho could escape from the handcuffs while underwater. Everything about the start of this issue would be intense as Maurizio Rosenzweig’s wonderful artwork would be on display as the Scout would majestically take out all the mercenaries sent to kill them while Jericho would escape. And the story would get deeper as Jericho would make his way to Quinn despite being late for their date. He would explain to her exactly how he got into his current situation doing these jobs for her boss, and this was some riveting character development. There would be a twist to the relationship with Quinn, and I’m not sure what it means yet but it definitely complicates matters. So I hope it’s in an intriguing way and not in an unnecessary drama way. I also find the constructing of the team, all the Resurrectionists, interesting too because they have names such as the Maker and the Heart but the meaning of those roles still hasn’t been established yet. But there would be another flashback to ancient Egypt, and despite not giving much information about how these endless reincarnations started, it did clarify the particular motives of characters and connect them to the present situation and meetings. So the story definitely moves forward overall, and barely enough answers are given so it doesn’t feel frustrating and the mystery seems as enticing as ever. I’m curious to see how the remaining characters will be unlocked and how they all came together originally. However, the ride is so much fun now that I have zero intentions of getting off.

    SUMMARY

Resurrectionists #3 continues the series’ trend of combining past and present in an exciting way, creating a story that pulls you into its thrilling world. A fully unlocked Jericho Way opens the series up drastically, and thankfully it wasn’t a let down. The construction of the entire team despite the challenges they face in identifying the remaining members was intriguing, and I’m curious as to how they got these roles/titles. I’m not sure how I feel about the twist with Quinn yet because I have to see where it goes but I’m more than willing to let the story play out with more answers being given than in this issue. And with the artwork, I’m looking forward to even more action sequences, and life being given to these characters.
