Q2: The Return of Quantum and Woody #3

  • The good

Past events felt more engrossing. Eric's reason(s) for becoming involved with new duo is more intriguing

  • The bad

Too many complications in every situation prevents the story from moving forward overall. And no action as battle with Koro is skipped

  • The ugly

  • Q2: The Return of Quantum and Woody #3 sheds light on the true nature of the new duo and Eric’s current involvement with them. This is a matter of contention between the former Quantum and Woody, but then again, they’ve always had these types of disagreements even going back to the incident in the woods as kids. Eric would be of the mindset that they needed to talk to the sheriff about the murder and get him to handle it. He would tell Amy that he didn’t know where Woody went but that Woody had plans to flee the country…with a banjo.  Woody would approach Amy later in private and tell her all about this plan while getting some money from her. But instead of fleeing he would end up hiding in the sheriff’s truck for some unknown reason. But the current situation would be more dire with Koro only needing one more piece to complete the Grail and gain control over all the Sword’s operatives, which would basically give him his own army. So the current Quantum and Woody are gearing up for one more fight, even if it’s their last, in order to prevent Koro from acquiring the last piece. They won’t be able to do it alone but there has been so many secrets and bad blood between the former Quantum and Woody that a successful partnership would be extremely difficult. Can they come to terms with this past at least enough to successfully defeat Koro?

The way the story unfolded last issue was really enjoyable, and the original Quantum coming face to face with Koro being an excellent touch. And even though I still didn’t get where the past story about Woody shooting someone was going, it didn’t take away from anything else in the issue, and I was glad about that. The start of this issue would focus on those past events again, at least how Woody and Quantum differed on what to do next. And it also confirmed a relationship between Woody and Amy. This felt a little more engrossing this time around due to the character development. When it would switch to the new duo it made me wonder what I missed as it jumped to them dealing with the aftermath of another event and Quantum unmasked. And since I was already excited about the Koro storyline, I was feeling the news that he only needed one more piece because of all the interesting scenarios they could become involved in as the overall story would get closer to a climax. At least that’s what I thought. I did like how more was seemingly revealed about Eric’s involvement with the new duo when Woody would confront him about it. But there was just too many different things going on at once that didn’t connect as smoothly as last issue, and it started to feel like I was caught in one of Woody’s schemes. The Koro storyline wouldn’t advance, and the true identities of the new Quantum and Woody would only be teased. I have my theories as a result of what was shown in this issue but I won’t mention here due to spoilers. But so many complications would be added to every situation, past and present, that it was difficult to tell where any of it was going. Even Amy’s relationship with Woody or Quantum became difficult to figure out. So the mystery of Koro and Quantum’s goals would’ve been more intriguing, including finding the new duo, without all the complications. However it does seem like things will tie together better next issue as more will be revealed so at least I’m hopeful for that.

    SUMMARY

Q2: The Return of Quantum and Woody #3 makes past and present situations more intriguing overall but falters by making every situation unnecessarily complicated. And the Koro storyline, which has been the most interesting, is kept in the background as the mysterious character development takes precedent without any straight answers. There is absolutely no action in this issue either as the fight with Koro for the penultimate piece of the grail will be treated like a flashback.     I do think that things will tie together very well but for that we’ll have to wait and see.
