Prometheus: Life and Death #3

  • The good

    Engineer mythology expanded.

  • The bad

Those looking for action won’t be pleased.

  • The ugly

Finding out what happens if you’re “viable”

There are bad days and then there are bad days. Our human survivors in Prometheus: Life and Death #3 now find themselves on a strange planet surrounded by xenomorph variants and a pair of Engineers whose motives are probably not very positive. The marines gain a small victory with a rescue from Galgo, Foster, and Ahab, but just how long will that last?

We open up with Ahab opening up on a xenomorph. Since this is the experiment that is LV-223 (seriously, the planet is like one big petri dish) these beasts look a bit different. They have glowing red eyes as opposed to the clear dome, which is perhaps a result of the accelerant. We don’t know if that causes them to behave differently, but the aesthetics are altered. Next up, Foster introduces the marines to their makeshift home. It would make Rick Grimes proud, complete with a ragtag crew and spike barriers to take care of the creatures.

    Prometheus: Life and Death #3
When the survivors get together, they have themselves a roundtable of sorts discussing the Engineers. I enjoyed this section of the book immensely, as any theories surrounding the Engineers are interesting to read. Because the movie, for better or for worse left a lot of questions unanswered, which opens plenty of material up for the expanded universe. Awesome stuff here, any fan of the movie will definitely appreciate it.

    SUMMARY

Prometheus: Life and Death #3 is yet another solid issue, as the Life and Death story arc continues to hatch. The pieces of Predator and Prometheus interact in a fluid manner with no confusion. Dark Horse has already improved over Fire and Stone series, which was a bit too ambitious for it’s own good.
