“Big things have small beginnings” – David, Prometheus.
This great quote from the movie fits well for this series as well. With all but the Predator series underway, it’s time to continue on with Prometheus: Fire and Stone #2. The first issue showed some significant progress and I was looking into diving back into this universe. And I was not disappointed.
Quick recap: After landing on LV-223, the crew of the Geryon fleet stumble upon some wreckage from ill-fated LV-426. As our intrepid explorers open up the wreckage they find a warm welcome in the form of a xenomorph pack. A beautiful medley of death ensues as members of the crew get taken out in various fashions.
As the surviving crew makes a run for it, Angela calls for help. Of course, while seeking safety and awaiting pickup from the Kadmos, things don’t go as planned. And this is where it gets interesting. I have seen Prometheus a few times and this issue brought something I had never thought of: the consequences of the ship crashing. All of the black goo spilling from the crash caused rippling effects over the planet. I wouldn’t go fishing on LV-223, that is for sure.
Once again Paul Tobin and Juan Ferreyra form a fantastic duo. Tobin’s writing is sharp and fits in seamlessly with the universe. No pace issues this time, a perfect balance of action and dialogue. The artwork is stunning; it’s just a wonderful job putting the world together. Such care from both parties in being faithful to the source material.
Summary
This is a complete issue. From start to finish it is a compelling read, Prometheus: Fire and Stone #2 feels like a movie. The nature of the Prometheus world is a perfect to set up the rest of the arc and this issues shows why. I can’t recommend this enough.
