Predator: Fire and Stone #3

  • The good

Galgo is awesome, great action, nice Predator dynamics

  • The bad

Traditionalists might not enjoy these Predator dynamics

  • The ugly

  • Yep, Spoilers ahead!

This is the homestretch. Months of build up are coming to end; only the 4th issue of Predator, Aliens, and AvP remain, and to be concluded with Prometheus: Omega in February. The Predator series hasn’t quite lived it’s potential so far, but I felt Predator: Fire and Stone #3 really found its legs.

Francis has easily been one of the most well-developed and interesting characters, however I have overlooked Galgo. I don’t know if it was designed that way, but he’s stood out in his last few appearances. He’s morphed into almost a R-Rated Han Solo. In the quest for his own fortune and glory he’s stumbled into the hero realm.
We pick up the action with a tethered Galgo rescuing Angela, who was not particularly pleased with his version of a rescue. After being “saved” by Galgo and the Predator, he reveals why he’s back on LV-223, and she gives him the story on the behavior of the Engineers.
For the remainder of the issue, it’s just Galgo and the Predator. For us unlucky ones that saw the Alien vs. Predator movie, the end of it was a disaster. Alexa and the Predator side by side like Batman and Robin. I’ve been emotionally scarred of any scene with a human and Predator working side by side since than. The scar isn’t fully healed, but some truly awesome interactions between Galgo and the hunter helped.  And the panels where they were trading war stories a la Jaws, were brilliant.

    SUMMARY

Predator: Fire and Stone #3 was the most complete issue in the Predator series; character development and action was both top-notch. Galgo elevated himself as another interesting piece of the puzzle, and the Predator gained some uniqueness as well. After months of teasing, next issue we finally receive the long-awaited Predator vs. Engineer fight!
