Lara Croft and the Frozen Omen #2

  • The good

Great story flow and action. So good to see Lara adventuring in different locations.

  • The bad

Random encounter with detective took away from intensity of situation

  • The ugly

  • Lara Croft and the Frozen Omen #2 has Lara attempting to uncover the truth about the strange artifacts while evading a shadow hunter. It continues with Lara cutting herself free from growing vines attacking her and Jon, and she tells Jon to grab the ivory artifact and flee since the vine appears to want that. But things become more complicated when an innocent man stumbles on the scene and is possessed by the force controlling the vine. Lara is flung out the cabin and before she can get back in time the man kills Jon and takes the artifact. She pursues him through the jungle but he’s able to escape after performing some incredible feats. Fortunately it’s not a dead-end as she’s contacted by Carter, who has some interesting news to share with her. Apparently, he’s come into contact with an artifact just like the one she was chasing, and he had a similar experience with someone trying to kill him. Lara is able to meet him in Istanbul but now both their lives are in danger as long as they have the artifact. Who is hunting them and why do they want these mysterious pieces?

Lara Croft and the Frozen Omen #2

I thoroughly enjoyed the first issue. It was good to see Lara adventuring again in multiple locations and trying to unravel the mystery behind an unknown artifact. I’ve enjoyed the other Tomb Raider series overall but the first issue offered a fresh take, and was fun. The start of this issue picks up right where that one left off and has Lara go from fighting a vine with a combat knife to chasing a possessed man through the jungle. And Jon’s murder was pretty graphic too. So this adrenaline fueled start was just the kick needed to propel the story forward.

So I was more intrigued in this artifact by the time Lara met up with Carter and he would tell her his experience. Carter’s story and the explanation given about the artifact in this issue was sufficient enough to show why it was so valuable to those chasing them but unsurprisingly didn’t explain fully why this cult wanted them or the nature of the shadow. I expect that to be explained in the next couple of issues. Although a detective randomly finding them was more perplexing than anything related to the artifact on the shadow creature.  And I even appreciated the hints dropped about the true identity of the madman that has been shown as behind it all.

Lara Croft and the Frozen Omen #2
The only problem I had with this issue was the random detective who found Lara and Carter, and I know it was to keep the action going but it seemed unnecessary considering the intense sequence that would unfold later. However, this issue was another fun ride and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

    SUMMARY

Lara Croft and the Frozen Omen #2 continues the entertaining ride by making the enemy more intriguing while delivering intense action and an increasingly interesting story line. Everything about the artifacts isn’t explained in this issue but enough is given to show why others would at least seek to possess it. This series is off to a great start and I’m looking forward to seeing more answers about everything going on.
