King Tiger #4

  • The good

    More action than previous issues

  • The bad

Story just wasn't entertaining and ending felt like a serious cop out. Happy thoughts make demons disappear?

  • The ugly

  • King Tiger #4 is the conclusion to the series and has him confronting his mother, Canthastius, who needs his blood in order to become whole. But Tiger isn’t alone, and once he sees Milo is able to shoot Canthastius and cause her to bleed, he puts a plan into action. He stabs Canthastius with arrows and shoots them in four different directions. And once he gets Canthastius into position he creates a mystical wall with the hopes of keeping her trapped in there with him so she can’t cause anymore immediate damage. However, his father is still in the picture and will do anything to sacrifice King Tiger to make his plan successful. Can Rikki, Milo and Lookfar hold off King Tiger’s father long enough for KT to defeat Canthastius?

    King Tiger #4
I wasn’t sure what could’ve been done this issue that would have redeemed the entire series for me but I knew there wasn’t much. I felt like the series did too much to undercut King Tiger as a character and as a result the story didn’t feel engrossing to me. Unfortunately, I felt apathetic to everything taking place whether it was the massive destruction caused by Canthastius or what impact recent revelations would have on King Tiger’s status quo. So I wasn’t surprised that this issue didn’t change that but I was somewhat surprised at how things just simply…ended.

Just like last issue, it was good to see Tiger in action and coming up with a plan to create a temporary prison for Canthastius but it’s not enough to be impressed with a title character actually doing something. Of course Milo drew blood first since every effort has been made to make the supporting characters seem useful but I was glad when their attention was turned to Tiger’s father and he was the main one to deal with Canthastius. The action seemed to be building up momentum for the plan but the good artwork was wasted on a plan that consisted solely of just keeping the demon immobile.

    King Tiger #4
Yet it wasn’t just the lack of a plan that kept me uninterested in what was taking place but the fact that none of the characters seemed to be truly affected by what was occurring. And I don’t mean because of the words they were saying but the fact that Canthastius was rampaging through the city and Rikki and Tiger were standing there with the other 2 arguing about their relationship. So Canthastius could consume physically enhanced characters easily but not others standing right there? Of course Tiger and his friends wouldn’t be killed in this type of series but the timing couldn’t have been worse, and that’s indicative of the way the story has felt disjointed throughout this series. Even Tiger’s father seemed out of his depth despite the initial planning on his part.

Every time a character said something along the line of why didn’t they think of that earlier it made me feel as if events were just being thrown together all along and the answers were just made up in this issue. I won’t give away any spoilers but in another series the final answer would have been more meaningful but here it just seemed like a total cop-out. The only good thing I can say about it in the context of this series is that at least this story arc is over.

    SUMMARY

King Tiger #4 is unexciting ending to a disappointing series. It doesn’t make sense to me that throughout this series even the characters who initiated Canthastius’s rampage become incompetent and unable to understand anything going on. And since no one is competent enough to handle anything occurring the solution just highlights the bizarre chain of events. King Tiger as a warrior skilled in the mystic arts is more compelling than one stumbling through everything. Unfortunately that character doesn’t exist in this series.
