Imperium #6

  • The good

Adrenaline pumping action with great character development. Excitement for next issue

  • The bad

Still no hint about world affairs during this time

  • The ugly

  • Imperium #6 has Harada continuing his assault on Project Rising Spirit in order to acquire the cold fusion reactor and free Broken Angel. Since the original plan suffered a setback with Gravedog revealing the fact the base was infiltrated, they’ve had to improvise slightly with their back up plan. This consists of Lord Vine pursuing Director Kozol, Mech Major attempting to access the database to get a layout of the ship, Gravedog securing the reactor and Harada rushing to free Broken Angel. Lord Vine has been thirsty for blood since arriving on the submarine, and he’ll have to go through H.A.R.D. corps in order to get to Kozol. And Kozol makes it clear to his security head that by any means necessary the psiot dampeners have to be put online because then they could turn the tables on Harada, who would be powerless. Meanwhile, Harada finally comes face to face with Broken Angel, who only previously communicated through Gravedog. And since she’s from another dimension he’s not capable of scanning her thoughts and discovering her true motives behind helping him. But with Project Rising Spirit on the verge of activating the psiot dampeners Harada has to decide: will he accept Broken Angel’s deal in order to succeed in establishing his sovereign nation?

This has been an extremely gripping series, and despite recent issues focusing on the attempt to acquire the cold fusion reactor it’s been just as entertaining. The new characters introduced have been well-fleshed out and fit well into the current story arc. So it was good to see this issue address Broken Angel’s motives early as she stated the reason to Harada directly. And it was a satisfying reason and even left the door open for even more development for the intriguing Broken Angel. It was also good because it showed how the reactor and Broken Angel would fit into Harada’s worldwide plans. And the exchange between them was chilling, and it was like watching two megalomaniacs team up in an attempt to perform the near impossible task ahead of them. I wasn’t too sure about Broken Angel at first but now she’s one of the most interesting (and twisted) characters in the series. Speaking of twisted, Lord Vine 99 made his mark this issue in his fight against H.A.R.D. corps in an impressive action sequence. But he was at his best when contrasted against Sunlight on Snow, who has a different motive for being involved in Harada’s plans.  And that’s one of the things this issue did very well; portraying each character clearly by showing how they all fit together in their roles to make the plan successful. And this series has done a great job in not making the entire situation black and white so one can root for Harada or even Gravedog and it’s not the worst thing ever. And I won’t give any spoilers but the story progression really had my heart pumping with its intensity. And the ending was incredible especially with who will appear in the next issue. I simply cannot wait.

    SUMMARY

Imperium #6 is is an adrenaline pumping issue that doesn’t sacrifice it’s intriguing storyline or entertaining character development. From the start of this issue to its exciting, and surprising, ending I was glued to the edge of my seat anxiously awaiting what was coming next. Broken Angel’s motives fit into Harada’s plans in a good way, and I have a greater appreciation of every character in this story arc. Every issue seems to get better and this one is no exception.
