Ghost #7

  • The good

Great showdown between Elisa and the Hunter. Story thread connected to the box is intriguing.

  • The bad

Very few answers regarding the Hunter, the boxes or even Von Ghastly's plan.

  • The ugly

  • Ghost #7 has Elisa facing off against the Hunter, a mercenary hired by a shadowy organization but has his own personal reasons for tracking her too. She’s on a rooftop watching the aftermath of the latest incident she was able to stop when she catches a glimpse of the Hunter getting ready to attack her from behind. They start fighting and she phases her arms through his body with a warning to get him to stop but he informs her that he knows all about her abilities and if she solidifies her hands she won’t just kill him but will kill herself in the process because of his suit. He tells her that all he wants is the box that brought her here and he would leave her alone for good. She rejects this deal and he sprays her with a toxin leaving her unable to breathe and in pain. However she’s able to snatch a box off his suit, fall from the roof and phase through the ground to land in a subway car to escape. She’s frustrated when she meets up with Vaughn about the fact that she’s been defeated by two different enemies in a row, and almost effortlessly too. And she feels she lost because they were taking advantage of her humanity, and maybe it’s time for her to let go and fully embrace being Ghost. But is her humanity really holding her back or is it the only thing that’s keeping her from becoming exactly like Von Ghastly and the Hunter?

This series has been on a tremendous roll, and the current story arc with Von Ghastly and the Hunter has been excellent in every way. And the start of this issue continued Elisa’s recent character development and how she’s gone from feeling restless due to only stopping regular criminals to feeling frustrated about her recent defeats. And the fight with the Hunter was very entertaining as he was clearly someone who was researching all of her abilities, and not just because he was hired by a secret organization but because of a personal desire to possess them. The quality of the colors in the artwork seemed different from previous issues, and I did find it to be slightly distracting initially during this fight. And even though this was my first time hearing about a box bringing her into the world it was still intriguing to me that the Hunter would want it for this organization. And the threat of Von Ghastly wouldn’t be ignored this issue and would only increase with his announcement about an upcoming celebration that would be huge. And of course Elisa would want to stop this knowing that Von Ghastly would have something sinister planned. And I was enjoying this issue from Elisa’s current mentality to the action to the various story threads that packed this issue. And her interactions with her friends was a good way for this issue to portray her current mentality concerning her humanity. And Tommy leading Elisa to where he got the box that brought her into this world was completely new to me so I was engrossed in this story line. However this issue focused more on Elisa giving into her anger, and the displays of it prevented any answers being given this issue regarding the Hunter, Von Ghastly or these boxes. I am curious about what would happen if Elisa was to fully embrace being Ghost but it would be more exciting if that meant additional abilities and not just additional anger. But I trust the direction of this story arc so I’m looking forward to seeing how this change will affect the events to come.

    SUMMARY

Ghost #7 is an action-packed issue that builds on the suspense of the origin of the Hunter and raises his status to a serious threat to Elisa. And the changes to her personality this issue is an interesting reaction to her last 2 defeats and even though I’m curious to see how that plays out I wish it wasn’t used as a way to avoid giving answers about Von Ghastly, the Hunter or any of the topics he brought up. However with the conclusion of this issue it appears that we’re headed for an explosive showdown next issue, and I’m already preparing to enjoy the ride.
