Ghost #3

  • The good

Nonstop action and suspense with great character development. So much occurs it felt like a double issue and very easy to follow

  • The bad

The threats between Elisa and Beleth resurface as part of their interactions

  • The ugly

  • Ghost #3 picks up with Elisa and Beleth facing off against a powerful demon inhabiting the body of James Barrow, a neighbor and childhood friend of Elisa. She may not remember him but considering the demon is trying to kill the two of them she has to spring into action any way. Unlike previous demons this one is determined to take her dead or alive and even if that means destroying the entire neighborhood to do so. Elisa reflects on the irony of being in danger due to a past she can’t remember or connect to but she knows what matters to her now and that’s the lives of her friends who have been with her throughout this entire ordeal. But that could change because Vaughn and Caroline are being followed by demons who became aware of their investigation into Beleth’s finances, and Tommy and Sloane are being stalked by the White City Butcher, who is observing them in their home and waiting for the right time to strike. So adding to the irony is the fact that while searching for answers to her past in order to move forward in life might result in her losing the new life she’s established is evident and brutal. Can Elisa find the answers she needs and save her friends or will she be forced to make a tough sacrifice?

I loved the first issue and that was my introduction to the character and I felt an excellent job was done in that regard. I enjoyed the second issue too but felt the back and forth threats between Elisa and Beleth occurred too many times and took away from the story. This issue has that same exchange briefly but it returns to form providing solid entertainment with its flurry of activity that’s easy to follow due to great writing by Kelly Sue DeConnick. The juxtaposition of Elisa’s thoughts about holding on to what matters to her and the life-threatening situations her friends were facing was intense, and so her battle with the demon became even better because so much more was at stake and I legitimately wondered if time would run out for them. The suspense was seriously high for me. It also helped that the battle was pretty impressive itself and Geraldo Borges artwork is fantastic this issue. I don’t want to give away the series of events and how these situations unfold because it’s a thrilling ride one has to experience for oneself. Not only does the story progress tremendously but there are a couple of moments of pure ingenuity including one that made me laugh out loud at how great it was. Considering how much occurred this issue I’m not sure where things will go next but I’m definitely in.

    SUMMARY

Ghost #3 is an excellent issue that provides electrifying action from beginning to end, and is full of great character development and interesting story progression.  I was pleasantly surprised with how much was covered this issue and it was very easy to follow. Despite Elisa and Beleth issuing threats back and forth again this issue it was much less and didn’t detract from the overall story or the thrilling suspense. So I’m looking forward to the next issue with high anticipation of what’s in store for the characters.
