Bloodshot Reborn #6

  • The good

Bloodshot makes personal progress. Agents Hoyt and Festival are back

  • The bad

Doesn't show anyone hunting the nanites until the very end

  • The ugly

  • Bloodshot Reborn #6 has Bloodshot discovering that he’s not the only one hunting the nanites and seeking to possess them. And this individual isn’t doing it for the same reason as Bloodshot, which is to prevent other massacres from occurring due to the nanites infecting others. This individual gets pleasure from killing even hunting and killing stray cats for fun. However, Bloodshot knows what it does to people and that’s what he explains to Magic, the woman he saved from her possessed boyfriend. He tells her that the nanites are originally from him and he has the responsibility to reacquire them all. She asks him why he hasn’t asked her to tell him what was in his file so he could know who he truly was before becoming Bloodshot but he states that he’s not ready to know and the fact that she knows is enough for him for now. But Magic still doesn’t want him to face any of this alone despite not being sure exactly what she could do in the face of this threat. Meanwhile, Agents Festival and Hoyt are fresh out of leads and they both agree that they don’t want to wait for another massacre to occur before they know where to head next. And ever since Hoyt read Festival’s file he feels that he should give her “gift” the benefit of the doubt. Can they work together to ultimately get to the bottom of these events or are they out of their league just like Magic?

    Bloodshot Reborn #6
The last story arc made me hope that there was someone else who possessed a portion of the nanites and was on a similar mission as Bloodshot. So when I initially heard about this arc I had my expectations up pretty high thinking of all the possibilities.  This issue didn’t focus on the one hunting the nanites, and it’s too bad because I was really looking forward to that. However, there was some terrific character development for Bloodshot and it made me wish this was done earlier instead of the over reliance on Bloodsquirt and Kay. The fact that Bloodshot wasn’t alone made it easier and more enjoyable to read his struggle with his true identity and guilt from the havoc caused by the nanites. It was good to see character progression, and even though Magic is far from a fully developed character, she fit in the situation and overall story very well. I won’t spoil anything regarding their interactions but there would be some action later on involving the hunt for nanites, and other individuals possessing them would make somewhat of an appearance.

Also, Agents Hoyt and Festival made their return and there was even humor involving them this time. I’ve felt that they’ve added a lot to the story as they pursued different leads with Festival’s ability. This issue got right to discussing Festival’s file, and it revealed a lot about both agents and their mentalities. There was even an unexpected outcome but it was all entertaining since the story still progressed slightly. I would have liked to see more of a follow up with the Project Rising Spirit lead but I’m sure that’s coming soon. For now it was good to see them back.

    SUMMARY

Bloodshot Reborn #6 is an issue that focuses more on character development than those hunting for more nanites but it’s done in such a good way that I wish this was the type of character development done sooner. Bloodshot makes significant progress with his mental state, and the hunt for nanites takes on an interesting twist. It’s good to see Agents Hoyt and Festival back and I’m looking forward to seeing where their investigation with their lead of just the name Project Rising Spirit goes and if they’ll finally learn Bloodshot isn’t the enemy. All in all it’s a decent start to this story arc.
