Bloodshot Reborn #11

  • The good

Great character and story developments with the Shadowmen's connection to the goo. Artwork is fantastic.

  • The bad

The force behind the technological goo still remains a complete mystery and antagonists overall are almost nameless since nothing has been shown about Shadowmen's leader

  • The ugly

  • Bloodshot Reborn #11 continues with Ninjak attempting to recruit Bloodshot to join him in saving Los Angeles from the technological goo attacking the remaining residents within the walls. It opens up with Ninjak rescuing civilians in Los Angeles from the onslaught of malfunctioning X-O Manowar copies indiscriminately attacking them. The X-O Manowars turn their attention to Ninjak since they deem him the bigger threat but he’s not alone as Animalia, Faith, and Torque show up giving him support. More robots show up overwhelming them and Ninjak is the only one who survives, and he’s eventually able to escape the city. He tells Bloodshot all of this in order to convince him to come to L.A. and fight back against the goo. Bloodshot is grateful for the help but he makes it clear to Ninjak that he doesn’t care what happens within the walls because his priority is protecting Magic and his settlement from the Shadowmen. However, Ninjak is adamant that once that goo finishes everyone in L.A. it’ll expand beyond the walls becoming a threat everywhere so it’s important to find out who or what is behind it. Will Bloodshot help Ninjak liberate L.A. from this mysterious threat or will he keep his focus on protecting the settlement?

    Bloodshot Reborn #11
Last issue did a great job in establishing Bloodshot’s current situation and made me feel invested in it. It was good to see Bloodshot with Magic and gain an understanding of how life was for them daily. And considering how happy he was in the settlement and seeing how much he was needed it made perfect sense for Bloodshot’s initial response to leaving it and helping Ninjak to be no. The settlement had no protector other than him and there was no way it could survive long without him. So this issue did a great job in creating a plausible reason for Bloodshot to join forces with Ninjak, however, not many answers were given that would shed light on everything taking place. Thankfully, connections were alluded to that made the story arc more tantalizing, and this issue more enjoyable as a result.

It was good to see what was taking place within the walls of L.A. as well as the fact that there were other heroes still fighting along with Ninjak. The fact that they couldn’t contend with the goo made it clear that it wasn’t to be trifled with and by using X-O Manowar as the form it manifested as made it more believable. This threat still felt ominous despite the source behind it not known yet and there wasn’t a clear reason for the indiscriminate attacks. I fully expect that to be part of the story arc and clarified as it goes along. Or at least that’s what I hope. And so this entire sequence did a solid job justifying Ninjak seeking Bloodshot’s help even though the latter hasn’t been involved in decades.

    Bloodshot Reborn #11
There is a powerful moment in this issue that I won’t give away at all. I will point to Ninjak making a case that the goo will spread because someone played a role in giving the Shadowmen who attacked Bloodshot new technology. This connected the events in an intriguing manner and made me feel like the story was progressing in an exciting way. It intensified the mystery of who or what was behind the goo and the true motive. The problem was that as soon as if felt as if the issue was just starting it was actually coming to an end. That was a good thing in the sense that the issue was pretty engrossing however after rereading it I wished more answers were given as well.

    SUMMARY

Bloodshot Reborn #11 is a solid continuation to the Analog Man story arc delving deeper into Bloodshot’s character development in a powerful way. And Ninjak’s battle against the technological goo and the latter’s subsequent connection to the attack on Bloodshot made their quest more intriguing. As a result the Shadowmen have become more interesting antagonists. However, the lack of answers regarding the technological goo takes away somewhat from the overall issue but does make me look forward to them even more. So hopefully next issue will reveal a little more about the threat behind the destructive path of the goo.
