Armor Hunters: Aftermath #1 follows the conclusion of the Armor Hunters’ invasion as the government seeks to reassure the public that the threat has passed while rebranding the heroes who stopped the invasion. It opens up in Titusville, Florida with hundreds of people flocking to the area in anticipation of some really big news. Back in the day this wouldn’t be an unusual occurrence since this area was known as the Space Coast and people would flock to see the latest launch. But this time it’s not a space launch and people aren’t entirely sure what the announcement will be but they believe it’ll be spectacular considering recent events. What they don’t know is that GIN-GR, the Armor Hunter who served as the team’s base of operations, is now part of M.E.R.O. Since Livewire interfaced with GIN-GR things have been different and she’s been able to completely understand the former alien invader, and knows that GIN-GR wants to belong and view her new team as family. She’s even learned how to make a smiley face, which not only impresses Livewire but she hopes will impress the public as well. This isn’t the only change since the Secretary of State informs the Colonel that the name M.E.R.O. will no longer be used, and going forward they’ll be known as G.A.T.E., which went over better with the public in polls. So the full blitz is on with the aftermath being about more than just the physical restoration of the cities affected but the hearts and minds of the public at large.
SUMMARY
Armor Hunters: Aftermath #1 successfully establishes the new status quo for Unity, M.E.R.O. and their relationship with the public at large in an entertaining way. It also gives a sense of closure regarding the Armor Hunters, at least for the crossover event, and introduces GIN-GR as a new member of Unity. I don’t know what storylines lie ahead for the team but if this issue is any indication then I’m on board for all the exciting possibilities.
