Armor Hunters #4

  • The good

Satisfying conclusion to the series with a heartfelt call to arms and intense battle. New stage for Aric and his armor. Action sequences are great with every character getting in on the action

  • The bad

Would've liked to see more blows exchanged before the conclusion of one of the fights. Reebo adamantly believing the armor changes people wasn't backed up through what was shown (or his previous act)

  • The ugly

  • Armor Hunters #4 is the conclusion to the smash crossover event and has Earth’s forces facing the Armor Hunters in one final battle to determine the fate of the planet. It opens up with GIN-GR rampaging through downtown Los Angeles after being brought down by Livewire, and the drones spawning from it prevent any airships from getting close to it. The destruction is too much for M.E.R.O. to handle by themselves, and Aric’s wife sees this clearly. Since he believes the destruction is his fault she tells him that he has longed for a homeland since his people were slaughtered centuries ago. And she reminds him how he found her and others who were being enslaved with him on an alien world, and since then he has become their protector. But now he has to see all the inhabitants of Earth as Visigoth, his people, and so he has to rise in order to protect them. And just like he heard her clearly, the Armor responds to his call, and he’s suited up and ready for battle. However, he won’t be doing battle alone as M.E.R.O. is already on the scene and Ninjak and Gilad are working on a plan to neutralize the drones. And his joining the battle has energized everyone else, and they finally have hope of defeating the Armor Hunters. And with Bloodshot sure to be on his way there’s a legitimate chance they can succeed. But Primary Reebo and the other Armor Hunters are determined in their mission and willing to give their lives if it means destroying the Armor. Can Earth’s forces come out on top, and if so, at what cost?

    Armor Hunters #4
I’ve been waiting anxiously for this issue while enjoying all the other entries in the crossover event after the last issue, so saying I had high expectations is an understatement. The story Robert Venditti has crafted has been amazing. So did it live up to my expectations? Yes, it actually did. The start of this issue was excellent with the Armor Hunters resuming their devastating assault on downtown Los Angeles followed by Aric’s wife appealing to his mind and heart to get him back into the battle. So the panel with his armor returning to him had me hyped, and like the Colonel read my mind when she said, “it’s about damn time.” And since I’ve read all the issues in this crossover event, I appreciated the way his next action would be tied into what unfolded in those issues as he would meet up with Ninjak and Gilad. And at long last there would be a head to head confrontation between the two sides with an excellent entrance by Bloodshot. The ensuing battle would be intense and every character would get in on the action. And Doug Braithwaite’s artwork was magnificent with every flip, every blow having an impact, and I didn’t realize how much I was leaning forward in my seat caught up in the intensity until later. Primary Reebo reiterates how dangerous the armor is and it turns people but not else is offered to back that statement up, and I”m unaware if that was answered prior to this crossover event starting. Without giving away any spoilers, I do wish one of the fights would’ve had a few more blows before its conclusion but it was still satisfying overall. And even some ramifications were addressed with a seemingly permanent change to the armor. I don’t know how Los Angeles will recover from the devastation or even what’s ahead for Earth’s forces but I do know for sure that I’m hooked to this characters and the Valiant Universe now.

    SUMMARY

Armor Hunters #4 is an incredible conclusion to the crossover event with its heartfelt appeal to Aric, its  earth-shattering action and beautiful artwork. My heart was beating fast with every page turn anticipating the next blow or fallen character, and as a climactic battle it was very satisfying. And it wasn’t just a complete slugfest as some of the ramifications would be shown setting off a new beginning for Aric and his armor. I came into this issue with high hopes, and I’m glad to say this crossover event was well worth it. I highly recommend the entire Armor Hunters series.
