Aliens: Fire and Stone #2

  • The good

Excellent action and plot developing issue.

  • The bad

Only one character worth caring about

  • The ugly

  • “I admire its purity. A survivor… unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality.” –Ash

The biggest surprise of this series so far to me has been how seamlessly the Alien and Prometheus world has meshed. As a traditionalist, I initially wanted the worlds together but separate. I’m glad I was wrong.

Aliens: Fire and Stone #2 takes place before the events of Prometheus #1

The issue begins with Russell explaining how the crew has survived (and perished) since landing on LV-223. Survival hasn’t come easy, and not without it’s casualties. Leadership has been a struggle as well with Nolan Cale and Genevieve Dione constantly bickering over how to combat the creatures. But Russell had discovered something else, He noticed a scanner from the Prometheus still doing its job and managed to capture it. Here, he learns of the crew’s discovery and their short stay on the planet. Russell eventually finds his way back to the complex where the other ships are located.
This is an exceptionally solid issue from front to back from Roberson and Reynolds. It’s an exciting issue, and I like where they are going with this. Seeing how the black goo can affect other living things is interesting, and keeps you guessing as to what those Engineers were up to.
The xenomorph action is great as well, as you see them attack and maim in different manners. Few things are more exciting than an alien ambush. And those snatch and grab trips are always productive for them.

    SUMMARY

Aliens: Fire and Stone #2 is a strong issue. You can see the potential in this arc in the Aliens and Prometheus stories. These two teams seem like they are working well together and keeping everything together. I look forward to more!
