Aliens Defiance #12

  • The good

  • The bad

  • The ugly

  • Well. It’s been an interesting month for us Alien fans. The fandom has gone haywire since Alien Covenant released. Whether you enjoyed the movie or not, I hope you’ve all enjoyed the experience. But the franchise goes on, as does Dark Horse Comics. Aliens Defiance #12 does an excellent job in keeping the interest going.

    Spoilers Below

Deep in the heart of Weyland-Yutani, chances are looking grim for our heroes. Hollis’s fate is sealed. Unable to secure a live xenomorph specimen they use her to draw out another. Despite the successful surgery, residue still remains inside her and The Company wants it. Perhaps this is a procedure David used himself with Shaw? You fought the good fight Hollis; your efforts were greatly appreciated.

    Aliens Defiance #12
Hendricks finds herself in a situation similar to that of Ripley at the beginning of Aliens. She is left to her own devices, surrounded by Weyland-Yutani. But unlike Ripley, she knows how they work and has an ally with her. Dr. Yang helps Hendricks get back on her feet, playing the good doctor. She keeps her updated on what’s really going on, keeping hope alive. Her body and mind have been broken at one point, but Hendricks has kept her focus on the mission.

Weyland-Yutani is a large part of this issue and I loved it. It’s an under-represented story aspect in the movies, and I enjoy any peek into their world. Here we get a glimpse into their world and how it works. Their arrogance and will to do whatever is necessary to obtain a specimen is immeasurable. Whatever happens in the next Alien movie, I hope it shows more of this.

    SUMMARY

After a bit of a stumble last issue, Aliens Defiance #12 rebounds nicely. Lots of loose ends are tied up and momentum is built for the rest of the story. Hendricks has a new fight ahead of her; I can’t wait to see what she is going to do next. Until then, stay frosty…
