Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-Earth 9.0 Update

The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-Earth 9.0 update adds new features and like the previous updates add some significant changes including a fourth city for its upcoming Desolation of Smaug expansion. The most notable to me is there’s now gear in Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-Earth. But before I get to that, there’s been an upgrade to the graphics and everything is in beautiful HD now. I really like the graphics now and it’s also much easier to distinguish between buildings and see the available plots. The icon has been upgraded and the opening screen as well. Kabam wasn’t pulling any punches and Galadriel’s Gift has replaced Gollum’s chance in the beautiful is better theme. But seriously, the graphical update is very much appreciated. And the introduction of Galadriel’s Gift, as well as being able to trade in extra 2nd and 3rd city deeds for more tokens, resulted in me receiving tens of thousands of new troops (including tier 5 troops), ascension runes, hourglasses and other resources. There was also the opportunity to win a 4th city deed but I didn’t win one so I’ll have to wait until they become available through game play. Here’s the complete list of updates:

  • Defeat Smaug the Stupendous in Desolation of Smaug Expansion
  • Earn New Armor and Weapons for Heroes
  • Equip crafted armor sets and specialized weapons for heroes
  • Collect and Upgrade Middle-Earth’s Mightiest Gear
  • Compete through new Campaign Maps and boss battles
  • High Definition improvements to art and style
  • Build a 4th City to prepare for Beorn and Tauriel’s Wilderness Outposts

The new equipment screen, along with weapons, armor and gear being available for heroes, adds some slight RPG elements to the game. You can view and equip gear for one of your heroes by going to your Great Hall and then selecting the Heroes tab. You’ll see the list of your heroes along with the attack, life and troop limit benefits of the gear already equipped. When you select equip you’re brought to the screen above and you’ll see all the equipment you have available. Each hero can have five items equipped: A weapon, armor, shield and 2 accessories. You hold the item you want to equip until you’re able to drag it into the appropriate slot, and the change in stats is shown immediately. You can select the information tab or the “i” button to see even more information regarding the gear since each one has different benefits for the different types of troops. For example, a ranged weapon will only add benefits to your ranged troops so this means certain heroes will be more effective with certain troops. Each gear can have up to four attributes with each attribute represented by a different symbol. Wings indicates speed, swords indicates attack, heart indicates life and a bag indicates troop load. The Forge comes into play here too because the higher the level your Forge is the more storage capacity you have for your gear. And you can even sell unwanted gear for gold. I’m looking forward to playing around with this and seeing how it works out.

Select your Great Hall in the city and then choose the Heroes tab. You can then select Equip for the hero you want to use that particular gear. If the gear is high level make sure that your hero is at the correct level in order to equip it.

Yes I believe so but I can confirm 240 now because there are Hero’s Glory for lvl 240 available now, which would raise the level to 240 immediately.

How did you trade in your spare second city deed for tokens? I can’t find that option.

They’re heroes that you get with your fourth city. It’ll be a new game play mechanic that will let you establish outposts with them and it should be available some time in the future

You can purchase in the shop, complete the Desolation of Smaug campaign, or you can collect Armor Shards from attacking camps or completing missions
