Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle Earth – The Necromancer

Now that I’ve finished the Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle Earth – The Necromancer campaign I can say that Kabam got a lot right this time. If you’ve played any of the campaigns then you know that in order to advance from one map to the next you have to acquire enough keys from repeating fights with the boss on that map, and you only acquire a key when it appears next to the boss before the battle. Clearly this can put a serious hamper on progress especially when a key doesn’t appear after numerous boss battles. I did find that if I did a boss battle more than 3 times without a key generating, switching cities and performing the quest in another city would generate a key after one battle. I can’t say that will work all the time but in my experience it worked consistently.  There are 5 maps in this campaign and you’ll need a total of 7 keys with all the maps require 2 keys to unlock except the second one, which only requires one to unlock. So you can make very good progress and the story here is actually entertaining. You’re on the hunt to find and defeat the Necromancer, and the conversation that takes place prior to each battle is a little more than the usual quick trash talk between your forces and the enemy, as it feels like you’re truly making progress towards the final battle. And it’s not just the story that is better, the rewards for each battle are rewards that you can use immediately instead of having to stockpile in order to forge an artifact for a boost. You can win food, ore, wood and stone runes, 1 hour and up speed ups and more. I didn’t acquire any forge runes during this campaign so if you’re looking for an abundance of them you might want to check the other campaigns.

    1. The key fragments seem to appear on the most recent boss. 2. They seem to appear after a certain amount of battles, or score is achieved. 3. They do seem to appear faster if you beat you’re high score for the areas preceding the boss. This is what I have observed in S4Saruman. There also does seem to be some kind of timing to it, meaning that if you haven’t attacked anything in that area for a while the next attack will have the key appear. But, it seems like the most effective way is beating your own high score.

Even when I’ve beaten my high score I’ve received other items especially with the gear upgrades available. I do occasionally receive rune stones 3 times in a row so it doesn’t seem to be completely random all the time.

This is confusing me as well – you never seem to complete the campaign?

Yeah you can complete the campaign but there’s no special bonus at the end of it. I wondered if it was a glitch and if the wrong boss was used

Nothing happens after you beat Necomancer’s Lair? No Key… no good job, continue on next quest?

Nope, just whatever reward you receive from that last fight and sometimes that can just be an hour glass

great info just one thing you can attack any position in the map to get the key fragment and I think even lower level parts of the map give key fragments that add to the top level so you can get key fragments and lose less might

Thanks! I’ve never seen anything that would suggest you can get key fragments from anywhere other than the boss after the key fragment appears on the map. I’ve never tried to keep fighting an earlier boss until a key fragment appeared either. Have you been able to get one this way?
