Gotham Casting News

There has been a lot of Gotham casting news lately and I have to say that the show seems to be shaping up nicely with many characters from the Batman mythos. First there was the casting of Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, who will be a detective in this pre-Batman series and not in the role of the commissioner we all know. A young Bruce Wayne will be in the series but this will be after the murder of his parents and this will be investigated by James Gordon in the pilot. Even though Bruce Wayne will only be a kid and the series will be focusing on ““the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous,” there will still be strong ties to the Wayne family in this series as Alfred Pennyworth has been cast and will be an ex-marine in his Batman: Earth One incarnation. So he won’t be the usual elderly butler shown in the movies but similar to his more recent incarnations with strong ties to the intelligence community and very skilled in hand-to-hand combat as well as firearms. This sets up a very interesting dynamic in the series and I have to say my excitement is rising for this show.  Sean Pertwee has been cast in the role of this incarnation of Alfred. But that’s not the only news as a villain and supporting cast has been announced and it’s pretty impressive. The role of the Penguin, or rather Oswald Cobblepot, will be played by Robin Lord Taylor, who was recently in the Walking Dead having his shoulder popped back into place by Carol and Rick. The official description of him in this series has him having “the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, is a low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.” Here’s the full round-up of the casting news:

  • James Gordon – played by Ben McKenzie and who the show centers around
  • Alfred Pennyworth – Ex-marine and guardian/protector of a young Bruce Wayne played by Sean Pertwee
  • Oswald Cobblepot – played by Robin Lord Taylor in his pre-Penguin days and a low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Moone
  • Sarah Essen – played by Zabryna Guevara and is the captain in the Gotham City Police Department and current boss of James Gordon
  • Barbara Kean – played by Erin Richards and is an emergency doctor who is also Gordon’s fiance
  • Harvey Bullock – fellow detective played by Donal Logue

I wasn’t sure what to expect when this series was first announced but with the official releases and the casting news I’m very optimistic about this show and it definitely has potential. It seems to have enough elements where it won’t all feel like a prequel filler and will have interesting dynamics on its own, including a young Bruce Wayne

Hahah now I have a crazy idea of finding out a franchise to turn into tv series, oh I got it!!! Underworld as a tv series, war of vampires and lycans would be hell of a fun to watch on television hahah, (definitely it would be this one vampire show that I would seriously like, the only other one about vampires I found very entertaining was Moonlight, about vampire detective Mick St. John, one of the gems of this show was side character of Joseph Kostan with delightfully snarky personality 🙂 as for the witcher jsut as a side note in polish 13 episode series there was a bit of nudity and bloody violence if poor choreography and special effects, so HBO style would nail it haha :), I think that original idea of filming episodic short stories was good one… shame it failed overall to fulfill fans expectations, as for saga it would be difficult so that would require full movies to cover each novel :).

LOL, I understand especially considering when it’s a franchise you really enjoy. I highly doubt it would ever happen but I would like to see some Mass Effect animations or short series. It’s one of my all-time favorite franchises. And I wouldn’t want to watch the Witcher or basic TV because the content wouldn’t be represented well. I think of the Witcher and how Game of Thrones has been done extremely well on HBO

Very interesting but it’s just another rehash of the franchise 🙂 that’s been heavily used for years now (I don’t even remember how many movies were made :), still the idea of tv series (out of batman nonetheless and about Gordon heh 🙂 is fascinating, new areas to explore (wonder if any other successful franchise will get such productions haha, can you imagine some sort of tv show out of…Tolkien’s works for example (some sort of Tales of Middle Earth or something hahahah), or any other for that matter, ehh superman already got tv series so he doesn’t count :)(maybe someone will make a new tv series of the witcher, better than the current existing one for wider public 😉 even Blade got his tv show though I’ve never seen it :).

Part of the reason this Gotham series was approved was because of the success of Arrow, the TV show based on Green Arrow. There’s also a Flash TV show that’s coming out soon and it’s a spin-off of the Barry Allen character appearing in Arrow too. So I have high hopes for this show and believe it can be as good as Arrow so I’m really looking forward to this. As far as a Witcher TV show I think it would have to be on HBO or at least cable to maintain some of the maturity of the witcher lore. A little mini-series would definitely be interesting to see how it works. And I forgot all about that Blade TV show but I did watch it lol
