Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV is the long-awaited and renamed Final Fantasy versus XIII and is being developed by Square Enix for the PS4 and Xbox One. Honestly I don’t care what the final name ends up being because I’ve been waiting in anticipation of this game for so long I just want to get my hands on it. And from all that has been revealed it looks like it’ll be more than worth the wait. The story in this Final Fantasy is set in the kingdom of Lucia and is one of five kingdoms that once possessed a powerful crystal. However it’s now the only one that still possess it’s crystal and keeps itself isolated from the rest of the world because it’s more technologically advanced and cultured than the other kingdoms. The problem arises when the kingdom of Nilflheim decides to break a peace treaty and invades and conquers the other three kingdoms before attacking Lucia to acquire its crystal.  You play the role of Noctis Lucis Caelum, the prince and de facto leader of Lucia, who seeks to repel the invasion with his companions instead of fleeing. This sets the story for Final Fantasy XV.

“The true figure is still hidden in the sleep. An isolated nation protected by an ancient line of Kings.
A modern civilization alive with crystal’s songs of swords and sorcery.
A lone Kingdom fighting to forestall the outer world from imposing its heretic order.
The struggle for the final crystal is merely a prologue to the chronicles of new era.
This is a fantasy based on reality.
A meeting predestined by the divine.
Eyes that see the light of expiring souls.
An act of love by the last king.
The figure that still lies asleep in the fantasy”

Above is the Prologue from Square Enix describing the story. They state that the story in this Final Fantasy will be darker than previous games and will be more realistic in terms of the human element and reflect current political, economic and social issues. In the gameplay trailer shown this clearly appears to be the case and not just in terms of the stunning graphics but the story shown as well as the action. And so the big change in Final Fantasy XV is that it’ll be an action RPG instead of being a command-based one. So battles will take place directly on the field instead of being transported to a battle screen. You’ll still be able to control only one character at a time but will apparently be working in a team of three with the other 2 CPU controlled.

I have to say that I’m very impressed with the trailer and the information released about the game. I like the change in direction with the tone of the story and since I already enjoy action RPGs I’m not against the change from command based because it’s being described as similar to Kingdom Hearts.  The story has tremendous potential with the various kingdoms and the information given about the characters so far.  The only thing missing is an actual release date and once that’s revealed it’ll be a date definitely marked in my calendar
