Elder Scrolls Online Beta Stress Test

After waiting anxiously for a response I finally got my invitation to the Elder Scrolls Online Beta Stress Test. Well, I applied for the full beta but participating in this will increase my chances for a full beta code. More importantly, I still get to play Elder Scrolls Online this week! Even though I’ll have full access to the beta this Friday, September 6th for 3 hours, it’ll be slightly different from the regular testing. During this time, Bethesda will be testing the limits of its system, so in addition to forcing failures if things are going smoothly, they’re advocating pushing the limits in all ways possible to see how things hold up. So there will be planned (or unplanned) server crashes, server reboots, and other malfunctions for the sole purpose of getting feedback to make the actual launch as smooth as possible. Nothing is more frustrating than being unable to play a game during its initial launch because the servers are down, so I’ll gladly do my part. And if being able to play Elder Scrolls Online early wasn’t a reward enough, I’ll also receive a special vanity pet. photo

If you’ve never heard of Elder Scrolls Online, it’s a MMO published by Bethesda and based on the incredible Elder Scrolls series. It’s set in the same continent of Tamriel and set 1000 years before the events of Skyrim. There are 3 factions fighting for the throne of Tamriel and you can choose to belong to either the Aldmeri Dominion, the Daggerfall Covenant or the Ebonheart Pact. It’ll have everything you love about the Elder Scrolls series including different races, classes and full customization. Check out one of the many great trailers below.

UPDATE: Due to the NDA I cannot write about my experience with the beta or post any pictures but I can say that if you love Skyrim you will love Elder Scrolls Online

Played the beta / stress test tonight – game locked up – server froze – then it kicked everyone out. Refused to load. After an hour and only creating a character but not being able to complete the first part of the first mission/tutorial because the talk button wouldn’t work i gave up. They have some serious issues.

I found that exiting the launcher completely helped me get in the game initially after failed attempts. The actual game play and interactions worked smoothly for me. I switched between programs and still couldn’t get it to crash. And the only server issues I had were the planned shutdowns. With the stress test they wanted to generate as many errors as possible so you would be the ideal person they would want to hear from here http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/entry/signin?Target=categories . They might want you again for the next test

I got the stress test key 2 days ago and threw it out, I know I’m going to be bashed but I see no need to ever play this game when I’m playing FF14, and besides it’s best if I don’t spend around 100+ dollars on the first go, I’ll wait until the price of the game goes down.

There’s no reason for you to be bashed at all. There’s only so much time for different MMOs and if you’re enjoying FF14 then the initial fees for this game wouldn’t be worth it for you. The fees are a concern for me depending on how much I would actually be able to play it and how impressed I am. I do see myself playing it at some point after launch since I’m a huge Elder Scrolls fan
